Cadmhas opened its doors, and commenced delivering support to our first community based clients. This was all possible due to the determination of a group of individuals, who were awarded a successful tender proposal back 2006.
As the company began to develop, the service we provided evolved to include statutory Independent Mental Health Advocacy, which enabled us to work in partnership with other advocacy services; ASNEW in Flintshire and MHAS in Gwynedd. This expanded the advocacy services through the North Wales counties from Conwy and Denbighshire to Flintshire and Gwynedd also.
Further to this, CADMHAS became a registered company limited by guarantee and then gained its registered charity accreditation shortly after.
Due to receiving a grant from Comic Relief, Cadmhas continued to develop its services further, for a Mental Health project to assist older people. This fund allowed us to run this project for three years, and due to the success of the project further funding was granted from Lloyds TSB foundation that allowed us to continue the project for a further year, allowing us to incorporate the project into our community advocacy service.
Cadmhas adapted further to the needs of our clients and took on a Non Mental Health advocacy project aimed at young people. The Young Peoples Advocacy provides a voice for young people up to the age of 25. We work within a consortium and closely with two other Denbighshire projects to deliver this service.
Cadmhas were successful in gaining the Independent Mental Health capacity contract in partnership with ASNEW advocacy in Flintshire and MHAS Service Gwynedd. The Mental capacity advocacy has seen an increase in demand due to new case law (P vs West Cheshire) stating that more people who lack capacity must be placed under the deprivation of liberty order.
Further to our current Conwy and Denbighshire services, in late 2016 we were successful in winning a tender to provide independent Mental Health Advocacy Services for both North and South Powys.
In the October of 2016 Cadmhas received the Advocacy Quality Performance Mark. This award was in recognition of the organisation’s commitment and ability to provide high quality independent advocacy.
We are delighted that we are able to help more of our clients throughout these counties, and we still remain committed to continually delivering a quality service to our users.
