The Role
Our IMHAs are Independent Mental Health Advocates who represents any patient who is assessed or who is being treated for a mental health disorder in hospital or a registered setting. Also those people who are subject to a supervised community treatment order, guardianship order, or have been conditionally discharged.
Our IMHA’s can help support individuals to make sure their views are heard in meetings; help them understand more about the section they have been placed on, and assist them in understanding their rights and accessing relevant records.
In order for our advocates to provide this service, clients must meet the following criteria:
- Currently in hospital or in a registered setting registered with the Health Inspectorate for Wales
- Receiving assessment or treatment for mental health problems
- If living in a community setting individuals must be under a community treatment order, guardianship order, or be conditionally discharged / restricted patients
